Bishops Open Home Instead Franchise

“I’ve always had a passion for helping, but especially our aging population,” said Nikki Bishop of Litchfield. “Even as a young girl helping my grandma, I knew older people had a special place in my heart. And there’s not always a lot of help in that area.”

This fall, Bishop and her husband, Kyle, opened their own Home Instead franchise in Edwardville. Bishop has been with the Home Instead company for six years, first in the Litchfield office as a regional manager and then as the director of client care.

But her love for helping others started before her time with Home Instead.

After serving several years as the executive director for the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce, Bishop worked five years for Heritage Health in Litchfield, earning her administrator’s license.

“I loved my time at Heritage,” Bishop said.

But an opportunity to bring Home Instead to the Litchfield community meant Bishop could continue to help seniors in a different way.

“We take care of people wherever they are, wherever they call home,” Bishop said. “We step in to help fill in the gaps in home care.”

Bishop said she and her husband were approved to purchase a franchise last November and went to Omaha, NE, for training. They had hoped to open their Edwardsville franchise this spring, but the global pandemic slowed things down a bit.

The couple participated in two weeks of virtual training in September before opening the Edwardsville office at 105 S. Pointe Drive.

“The pandemic has changed what we do in some ways, but we’re also seeing an increase in people who want to stay home,” Bishop said. 

She added they continue to take additional precautions with their caregivers, asking them to wear masks and gloves, do temperature screenings from home, as well as taking the clients’ temperatures.

“It may have changed the look of our hands-on care, but it hasn’t changed our level of care for our clients,” Bishop said. 

The Litchfield office remains open, and Bishop said she maintains a good relationship with their franchise. She and her husband plan to remain living in Litchfield as well.

As Bishop takes on the role of owner, her husband, Kyle, will serve as the facility’s general manger. He will continue to work full-time at Steve Schmitt Brubaker in Litchfield, but will help after hours and on off days at the Home Instead office.

“He has been a great support system, along with our boys,” Bishop said. “We both have watched our parents working together in the real estate and auto industry, so we hope to make them proud that we have continued on the legacy of a family business. We both love helping others and Home Instead gives us the ability to make a difference in the lives of aging adults and their families. I truly feel I am doing God’s work and am humbly blessed by this opportunity.”
