Beverly Carol Schaff, 81, of Litchfield, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, at 5 a.m. at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Litchfield.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield and on Friday, Aug. 27, from 10 until the time of service at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Fred Kraemer officiating. Burial will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Valentine, NE.
Mrs. Schaff was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Davenport, NE, a daughter of Albert and Freida (Ahrens) Hoins. She married the Rev. Rudolph Herbert Schaff, Jr. on May 6, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, IA, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2011.
A graduate of Waverly-Shellrock High School in Waverly, IA, she went on to attend college for a year. Later, she became a teacher’s aide. She dedicated her time to being a homemaker. She worked in Bangladesh together with her husband in the mission field. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. She loved gardening, reading her Bible, listening to music and playing the piano.
She is survived by her children, Thea L. (Art) Hernandez of Sandwich, Tamara A. (Will) Schumacher of Brentwood, MO, Rudolph H. (Julie) Schaff, III of Westgate, IA, Rachel (Bryan) Biebault of Enfield, NH, John M. (Leandra) Schaff of Hoyleton, Andrew A. (Noel) Schaff of Chiayi City, Taiwan, Heidi (Mike) Doering of Austin, TX, Stephanie Schaff of Bellevue, NE, and Katrina (Justin) Kumfer of Stewartville, MN; three brothers, Jerome (Vera) Hoines of Shellrock, IA, Wendell (Ethelyn) Hoins of Bellevue, NE and Everett Hoins of Farmington, AR; two sisters, Leola (Joe) Westendorf of Waverly, IA, and Nancy (Rex) Creekmore of Leeds, AL; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Victor, Lavern and Hubert and infant brother, Leroy Hoins.
