Beverly A. (Rush) Balmer, 75, of Millersburg, died on Monday, June 21, 2021, at UnityPoint Health in Rock Island.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial will be held at a later date at Aledo Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Mrs. Balmer was born Dec. 15, 1945, in Aledo, to William and Irene (Johnson) Rush. She married William Morford, and later married Tab Balmer, Sr. on March 29, 1974, in Quincy, and he survives.
She attended Aledo schools and although she didn’t graduate from high school, it was her desire and passion that her children and grandchildren attend school and further their education.
Mrs. Balmer was employed at Mercer County Nursing Home and Quinn’s Supermarket in Aledo. She also assisted the elderly in their homes.
In 1985, she and her husband leased the Midtown Lounge in Aledo, and on Aug. 8, 1988, the same night the lights went on at Wrigley Field, they purchased the business, renaming it, “Tab and Bev’s.” They retired in 2005.
Mrs. Balmer was a tournament bowler and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. She loved the slots and going to Las Vegas.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Tammy (Monte) Bryant of Aledo, TX, Randy (Brenda) Morford and Tab (Myah) Balmer, Jr., both of Aledo, IL, and Tim (Alycia) Morford of Hillsboro; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Engle of Millersburg, Barbara Dixon, Susan (Buck) Mizner, Kim (Dean Leslie) Witt and Kelly (Randy) Lane, all of Aledo; brothers, Allen (Mary Pat) Rush, James Rush, Rick (Gail) Rush and Jeff (Dee) Rush, all of Aledo; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Balmer was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scottie; grandson, David Morford; sister, Carole; brother, Patrick; stepsisters, Colleen West and Mary Kistler; and half-brother, Ernie.
Memorials may be directed to the family, who is establishing a fund to benefit charities.
