Betty Jean “Jackie” Lucas, 94, of Taylorville, died on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11:38 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, June 11, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville with the Rev. John C. Burnette officiating. Interment will follow at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Mrs. Lucas was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Blue Mound, to John A. and Carrie J. (Clements) Harding. She married Raymond J. Lucas on July 30, 1949, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2012.

She worked for the office of the Christian County Treasurer for many years before becoming a homemaker.

Mrs. Lucas was devoted to her church, St. Maurice Catholic Church, where she was active as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Altar and Rosary, and served as a soloist for many funerals and weddings.

She was a talented seamstress and made many of the beautiful tapestries that hung in the church throughout the year for various holidays, holy days and church seasons. She was also an avid reader, spending much of her free time with a book in hand.

Mrs. Lucas is survived by her daughter, Jean (husband Stan) Rovey of Springfield; grandchildren, Dr. Joshua (wife Erin) Rovey of Mahomet and Erika (husband Zach) Schlechte of Edwardsville; great-grandchildren, Lucas Rovey, Lyla Rovey, Sydney Rovey, Nolan Rovey, Liam Schlechte, Logan Schlechte and Landon Schlechte; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Irvin; and brothers Don, Harv, John and Gerald Harding.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Kitchell Memorial Library, 300 SE 5th Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546. Donations of food may be delivered to the Knights of Columbus Hall #1151 in Morrisonville on Saturday morning.
