Barbara Jean (Holmes) Marfell, 81, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 6:09 p.m. at her residence.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Event Center of Montgomery County in Hillsboro. Inurnment will be held at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield. Cremation rites were accorded. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mrs. Marfell was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Pana, to Pat and Dorothy (Briegel) Holmes. She married Allen Edward Marfell on Sept. 15, 1958, in Witt, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2019.
During her career, she served as the director of business development at Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau in Alton.
Mrs. Marfell was a member of Business and Professional Women and Republican Women, and was a Witt Lioness. A crafty person, she loved sewing, quilting and gardening.
Throughout her lifetime, she resided in Witt and Hillsboro.
Mrs. Marfell is survived by her children, Julie Marfell-Konopka of Lexington, KY, Bob (wife Jeannie) Marfell of Springfield, Suzie (husband Craig) Myers of Beardstown and Michael (wife Kara) Marfell of St. Louis, MO; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Diana Holmes of Hillsboro.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Steve Konopka; and one brother.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
