It was a little warm out at Shoal Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 28, but in the grand scheme of golf, heat beats rain any day of the week.
With a full slate of teams for the morning and afternoon flights, the eighth annual TEAM Golf Outing continued its mission of raising funds for Lincolnwood athletes at the junior high and high school level. In addition to the golf, there were also side games, 50/50 raffles (won by Dan Skinner and John Martin) and a silent auction that included a T-shirt quilt made by Sandy Webb that featured shirts from the events Lincolnwood had participated in honoring Grace Herschelman.
Webb also made a second quilt to give to the Herschelman family in honor of their daughter, who passed away at age nine on May 19, after a long battle with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy.
The first drawing from the Lancer Loot Lottery was also held, with Shannon Wadlaw of Raymond taking the $500 first prize with a ticket sold by Dorothy Lipscomb. The next drawing will be held on Sept. 4.
As for the golf outing, the team of Mike Riggs, Kanen Riggs, Trevor Riggs and Rhett Rossi took the top spot in the men's team division, shooting a 54 to beat class of 1999 Lincolnwood grads Doug Held, Seth Brockmeyer, Aaron Fesser and Pete Stead by one stroke.
Steve Kirby, Jeff Seiler, Chris Hamilton and Marty Kopatz were third with a 60, while Mark Krager, Steven Krager, Matt Jones and Brian Millburg were fourth with a 62.
The team of Ashley and Joe Webb, Ryan Webb and Kevin Young won the co-ed team division, matching the 54 put up by the men's winners. Dan and Rachel Skinner, Andrew Skinner and Dennis Skinner were second, with Korey Brockmeyer, Abby Brockmeyer, Jack McKinney and Brad Harrison finishing third with both teams shooting 57s.
In the skins game, Kayla Mason, Katie Kaufman, Sarah Matli and Heather Cohen won the morning skins, while the Webb/Young team, the class of 1999 team and the team of Joe Mizera, Luke Gedaminski, Todd Gedaminski and Dave Nelson split the afternoon skins.
The grand total raised during the golf tournament and the other events held in conjunction with it will be announced during the high school basketball season.
