Alvin Walter Miller, 90, of Hillsboro, died at 11:50 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on  Friday, Sept. 17, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021 at the church with Rev. Jeff Hemken, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro and Pastor James Hayes of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will be at Cress Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro. Military rites will be accorded by Department of Defense and American Legion Post #425. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Miller was born on Dec. 28, 1930, in Herrick, to Rev. John “Walter” Miller and Mary Elizabeth (Calvert) Miller. He married Barbara Ann (Painter) Miller on Nov. 20, 1949, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, she preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1983. He married Martha Sue (Edwards) Miller on Nov. 3, 1985, in Litchfield. 

Mr. Miller graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, who served from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he worked for Sears and Roebuck. He was the store owner of Western Auto, and worked for Dunn Real Estate, Patton Memorial Home, and later Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home and True Value

Mr. Miller was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. He was known as a “Mr. Fix-It” who could fix anything. Mr. Miller enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved reading his Bible daily and was a very strong man of God.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife; daughters, Sharon (companion, James Hires) Johnson of Litchfield, Susan (husband, Charles) Coy of Vandalia, Serena (husband, Todd) Hennings of Attica, IN; sons, Steven Miller of Peoria, AZ, Stanley Miller of Fayetteville, NC; step-daughter, Susan (husband, Max) Roach of Covington, TN; step-son, Mark (wife, Becky) Edwards of Cleveland, OH; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Miller of Berea, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Ed Miller, Julia Jester, Mary Ward, Carol Dorf and Lugenia Miller.
