Albert “Al” E. Babb, 89, of Jensen Beach, FL, formerly of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at Treasure Coast Hospice House in White City, FL, of prostate cancer.

Mr. Babb was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in Taylorville where he delivered newspapers to his future wife at the age of five. They were in the same fourth grade class and dated in high school. He joined the Navy during the Korean War, serving on the SS Butner. During shore leave, he and Joan were married four days after Christmas. After his discharge he studied accountancy at Millikin University and worked for several banks before joining the Milnot team.

The Babb family came to Litchfield in 1963, when Mr. Babb was hired as an accountant by the Milnot Company. The couple raised their daughters and made lasting friendships in the area. In 1976, the company sold and the principals moved him to Stuart, FL, where his dream of living on the ocean came true.

In the 1980s he became accounting manager of the Outrigger restaurant, which was owned by legend Frances Langford. He later continued responsibilities with the Langford Foundation. While living in Florida, Mr. Babb volunteered at Martin Health, took flying lessons and bought a plane, which he kept at Witham Field. He loved playing golf, swimming, surf fishing, reading popular adventure mysteries and rooting for his girls’ endeavors. He resided at Harbor Place for the last four years of his life.

Mr. Babb is survived by his daughters, Shelly (Richard) Babb Stansfield and Alison Babb; and granddaughter, Rachael Singletary.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and a daughter, Frances Babb-Farineau.

The family suggests memorials be directed to a Dachshund rescue in honor of his love for dogs.
