During the past week, 117 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Montgomery County, according to numbers posted daily by the Montgomery County Health Department.
The new cases for Dec. 6-12 resulted in a 5.5 percent positivity rate for the week. As of Saturday, Dec. 12, the number of county residents testing positive for the virus is 1,343 since the pandemic began.
The Litchfield School District announced on Thursday, Dec. 10, that a high school student tested positive, and the Hillsboro School District announced on Friday, Dec. 11, that a bus driver and a sixth grade student tested positive. Contact tracing on the driver resulted in one bus aide and two student riders quarantined, and contact tracing on the student resulted in 17 schoolmates and five fellow bus riders quarantined.
Since the school year began, the Hillsboro district has had 20 students and 16 staff members test positive, according to Superintendent David Powell.
According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, as of Sunday, Dec. 13, there are currently 41 active COVID-19 cases at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro: 31 among inmates and 10 among staff members.
