William Sloan, 94

William "Bill" Sloan, 94, of Hillsboro, died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville with military honors. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sloan was born June 29, 1924, at the family farm in Morrisonville, to George and Mary (Nolan) Sloan. He married Sandy Pasdeck at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and she survives.

He graduated from Morrisonville High School with the class of 1942, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for three years in the Pacific Theater of the Solomon Islands and the Philippines Liberation.

After WWII, Mr. Sloan was discharged and returned to Morrisonville. He enrolled in David Ranken Trade School in St. Louis, MO, where he learned heating and air conditioning, and served his hometown as a contractor.

He moved to Seattle, WA, upon his retirement, and began employment with Boeing Aircraft. After his time there, he and his wife returned to Morrisonville to operate a cafe and coffee shop, The Deli Ranch.

Mr. Sloan and his wife had been married for 35 years, but the honeymoon never ended. He died in the arms of his loving wife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepson, David Pasdeck; grandchildren, Kola, Elisha and Thaddeus; great-grandsons, Archard and Anakin; sisters, Rita Mae and Roseann Sloan and Martha Beeler; and two brothers, John and James Sloan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Cecilia Pino, Bernadine O'Niell and Georgia and Rosemary Sloan; and a brother, Nolan Sloan.
