Vandalia scored seven of their ten runs in the fifth and sixth innings on Monday, April 8, as Morrisonville took a 10-3 loss against the Vandals.
The Mohawks were held to six hits in the game, but pulled within one of the Vandals after scoring twice in the top of the fifth inning. Vandalia built up a 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two more in the fourth, but Morrisonville manufactured two runs in the fifth to keep the game close.
After a ground out to start the top of the fifth, Shawn Goebel, Evan Hopper and Dade Pitchford all singled to load the bases. On the seventh pitch of his at-bat, Sam Herman was hit by a pitch, forcing Goebel in from third to make it 3-1.
Jhadyn Walker would follow with a single to make it 3-2, but Vandalia would get out of the inning with a line out and a strikeout to keep it a one-run game.
It wouldn't stay that way for long though as Vandalia plated four runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman to make it 7-2 in their favor. Three more runs would come in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game virtually out of reach.
Morrisonville would get one run back with a leadoff double in the seventh by Evan Hopper, followed by two passed balls that allowed the score to move to 10-3. The Vandals would end it there though as three straight strikeouts finished off the contest.
Hopper and fellow Lancer-turned-Mohawk Dade Pitchford would both have two hits for the Morrisonville/Lincolnwood co-op team, while Shawn Goebel and Jhadyn Walker had the other two Mohawk base hits.
Morrisonville will have a doubleheader against Pawnee on Thursday, April 11, on the Mohawks' home field. After that, they will play Mulberry Grove on Friday, April 12, in Morrisonville, followed by the Montgomery County Tournament on Saturday, April 13.
