Shirley J. (Walston) Chism, 78, of Irving, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 5:42 p.m. at her residence.

Cremation rites were accorded. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mrs. Chism was born on July 18, 1939, in Daisy, AR, to the late Homer and Helen (Funatter) Walston. She married Hank Allen on Oct. 28, 1959, and they later divorced. She married Willie E. Chism on June 22, 1982, in Arkansas, and they later divorced.

She graduated from Nashville High School in Nashville, AR, with the class of 1955.

Mrs. Chism later owned and operated Chism Pit BBQ, and worked at Howard County Hospital with Ann Jackson of Nashville.

A member of the Southside Baptist Church in Nashville, AR, she lived in Arkansas, Louisiana, Indiana and Illinois throughout her lifetime.

Mrs. Chism is survived by her children, Angie Allen (spouse Curley) Petra of Irving and Debbie Allen Gilbert (Paul Osborn) of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Mandy) Petra, Kassie Petra (Jon) Layton, Sherri Gilbert (Jason King), all of Irving, Hank (Jade) Sanders of Florida, Richard (Crystal) Petra of Peoria, Mary Gilbert (Heather) Butler of Witt and Oscar (Amanda) Petra of Manteca, CA; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Bobbie Fatheree and Randy Walston, both of Nashville, AR.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Walter Petra, Jr.; and two siblings, Pete and Billy Walston.
