Robert Louis Hermsmeyer, 92, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, at 5:30 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.

Funeral services for Mr. Hermsmeyer will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 12 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.  The Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.  Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born July 7, 1931, in Litchfield, to Charles and Lillian E. (Stein) Hermsmeyer. He graduated with the Litchfield High School class of 1949. He married the former Dona Marie Brookman on Oct. 22, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield and she preceded him in death on April 23, 2012.

Mr. Hermsmeyer was employed by the State of Illinois as a manager in the Department of Property Management. He owned a gas business, was a Realtor for 30 years, was supervisor for North Litchfield Township for 27 years, was head of the Montgomery County Republican Party for 16 years, a committeeman for the Republican Party for 39 years, and a past Veiled Non-Profit. Mr. Hermsmeyer was a referee for high school basketball and football, coached the local American League Baseball travel team, and was instrumental in the development of the new baseball field at Litchfield Community High School. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Moose Club, the Elks, and Litchfield Antlers Club.

Mr. Hermsmeyer is survived by his two daughters, Chris Johnson of Litchfield and Sherri (John) Rundquist of Butler; four grandchildren, Corey (Angela) Johnson, Angela (Erik) Johnson, John T. (Kristal) Rundquist and Tyler (fiancée Victoria) Rundquist;  three great-grandchildren, August and Aspen Rundquist and Blair Johnson, three step-great-grandchildren, Andie, Charlotte and Daniel Foster; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son-in-law, Robert J. Johnson; 2 brothers, Ralph Hermsmeyer and Dr. Carl A. Hermsmeyer; four sisters, infant Dorothy Hermsmeyer, Ethel Repp, Geneva Mercer and Myrtha Schmidt.
