After the first few weeks of the season were highlighted by six cancelled games and a couple of close losses, the Nokomis Redskins turned the page on Tuesday, April 2, and picked up their first win, an 11-0 drubbing of East Alton-Wood River.
For the third time this season, Carter Sabol started the game on the mound for the Redskins. Over his three innings of work, he allowed no runs on only two hits and struck out six.
To make matters even better, the Redskin bats came with run support, putting up six runs through the first three innings of play. Up 6-0 heading into the top half of the fourth, Nokomis blew it open and scored five runs.
Evan Herpstreith and Drew Masset came in and got the final six outs for the Redskins, finishing off a five-inning 11-0 win.
Drew Masset, Nick Mascher, Carter Sabol and Landon Engelman all had two hits to help the Skins secure their first win.
Nokomis’ next game will be on Thursday, April 4, as they host Greenville. The Skins will then travel to Pleasant Plains on Saturday for two games, starting with a 9 a.m. tilt against the host school.
