Norman A. Rosentreter, 98, of Litchfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at 2:27 p.m. at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. A prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Daniel Willenborg, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, officiating.

Graveside services and military rites will be conducted Friday, Oct. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. at New Calvary Cemetery in Carlinville.

Mr. Rosentreter was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Carlinville, to Alexander P. and Victoria R. (Beasley) Rosentreter. He married Mary V. Walton on Feb. 22, 1941, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2007.

He graduated from Carlinville High School and Chicago Trade School, and served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during the World War II era in Southern Philippines, then during the Japan Occupation.

Mr. Rosentreter owned and operated Rosentreter's Insurance Agency in Hillsboro. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, Knights of Columbus in Hillsboro and Carlinville, American Legion in Carlinville, V.F.W in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Country Club and the Macoupin Club.

He resided in Carlinville upon his relocation to Hillsboro in 1962.

Mr. Rosentreter is survived by his children, Mary Herschelman of Carlinville, Pamela Sutherland and Janet Rosentreter, both of Springfield and Norma (husband Bill) Plowman and Andrew (wife Dawn) Rosentreter, both of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Kathy Groves, Steve Herschelman, Melanie Turner, Sam Faggetti, Heather Boucher, Kimberly Polus, Franki Ellis and Dawn Rosentreter;  12 great-grandchildren, Cody Kay, Marcus Herschelman, Austin Groves, Jenny Allison, Darian and Marley Turner, Noah Polus, Alex Faggetti, Emmett Law and Kaydence, Kambrie and Kasen Ellis; and a sister, Julia M. Grace of Bloomington.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Lyndal Herschelman and Martin Sutherland; one grandchild, Amy Herschelman; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Masses or St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
