Norma L. Snyder, 80

Norma L. Snyder, 80, of Springfield, died at 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday,  Aug. 2, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 10 to 11:45 a.m. with  funeral services starting at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Cherry Hills Church, 2125 Woodside Rd. in Springfield with the Rev. Cliff Woodman officiating. Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Butler Funeral Home in Springfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Snyder was born Dec. 13, 1942, in Carlinville to Lloyd and Lucille Loveless Fenton. She married Tom “Dean” Snyder on Nov. 27, 1968 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Raymond. The Snyders were known for their strong commitment to one another.   

Mrs. Snyder graduated high school in Alaska then attended Lincoln Land Community College.  She was employed by Bell Telephone for 21 years and later with Julie Davis Realtors. She enjoyed sewing, painting, and volunteering at her daughters’ school. Mrs. Snyder was in an accident that left her blind,  she remained positive throughout these hardships.  She learned how to knit, learned braille, and made books for the blind. Her favorite things to do was spending time with her family and dancing with her husband. She was a loving grandmother that loved being present for the grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of West Side Christian Church for 40 years.

Norma is survived by her husband; daughters, Tricia (Brian) Giacomini, Melinda (Lance) Ely and Susan (Ben) Berry; grandchildren, Caleb, Jessica and Jacob Giacomini of Springfield, Adam (Darby) and Zach Ely of Sherman, Olivia (Trent) Blakeley, Garrett Snyder, and Nathaniel and Lori Berry of Springfield; one great-grandchild on the way; sisters, Doris (Wayne) Garrison of Nashville, TN, Janet (Harvey) Woodman of Litchfield and Karen (Grant) Schoon of Akron, OH; sisters-in-law, Mary Snyder and Linda Snyder; brother-in-law, Randy (Christa) Snyder; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her beloved dog, Trisket; and many beloved friends, including lifelong friend, Judy Huffstodt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Jack Snyder and Larry “Bud” Snyder.
