Two days after beating Edinburg 20-1 for their first win, the Morrisonville/Lincolnwood baseball team picked up win number two with a 10-0 victory over the Wildcats.
Morrisonville starter Andrew Skinner started things off well for the Mohawks as he struck out the side in the top of the first, then doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Skinner would move to third on a passed ball, then scored on another one that got past the Edinburg catcher.
Shawn Goebel followed Skinner in the lineup and earned a walk. He’d advance to second on the passed ball that scored Skinner and movde to third on another wild one. After a pop up for out number one, Dade Pitchford reached on an error that allowed Goebel to score and make it 2-0.
Sam Herman would double to move Pitchford to third and after a strikeout, Pitchford scored on another passed ball. Herman would move to third on the play, then scored three pitches later on a wild pitch that made it 4-0.
The score would remain 4-0 until the bottom of the fourth, when the Mohawks plated two runs. Both runs would come with two outs as Grant Jones and Andrew Skinner drew back-to-back walks, followed by a double from Shawn Goebel that scored them both.
The trend continued in the fifth as two more two-out walks led to two more runs. Sam Herman and Jhadyn Walker would both get free passes, then scored when Dalton Thomas singled to make it 8-0. Thomas would advance to third on the throw trying to get Walker at home and Devin Brown walked to put two runners on, but Edinburg would get out of the jam to end the inning.
Morrisonville would close out the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice to put the ten-run mercy rule in place. Three straight walks to Skinner, Goebel and Evan Hopper would load the bases and a double by Pitchford ended the game as Skinner and Goebel came around to score.
Four of Lincolnwood’s five hits would go for extra bases as Pitchford, Skinner, Herman and Goebel all had doubles. Thomas added in a single, with two RBIs. Pitchford (three RBIs) and Goebel (two RBIs) also drove in runs.
Skinner allowed just three hits and one walk in his six-inning complete game shutout. The Lincolnwood senior would strike out eight batters on the day as well to earn the win.
Now 2-7 on the season, the Mohawks will host Ramsey on Tuesday, April 2.
