Marvin Lee Jones, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Harry Meyer of the Christian Church in Hillsboro. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Hillsboro, to the late Cloid and Myrtle (Bewley) Jones. He married Rita Ann Carr on Dec. 23, 1950, in Hillsboro, and she preceded him in death on March 28, 1991.

A 1949 graduate of Hillsboro High School, he was a veteran of the Army during the Korea War era. He retired from Illinois Consolidated Communications as a field supervisor.

In addition to living in Hillsboro and Springfield, he also lived in St. Petersburg, FL, and Ball Club, MN.

He was a member of the VFW Post #1306 in Taylor Springs, American Legion in Springfield and Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #51 in Hillsboro. His hobbies were fishing, watching Green Bay Packers football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

He is survived by one son, Kit M. Jones of Springfield; four grandchildren, Brock L. Jones, Josh T. Kerns, Jesse Lee Jones and Jenne C. (Jones) Mathews; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey L. Jones; one brother, Oliver Jones; and one sister, Doris Edwards.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
