Karl Robert Johnson, 68, of Lake Villa, died on Feb. 29, 2016, at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville.

Funeral services will be held graveside at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Nokomis Cemetery.  Mr. Johnson will be laid to rest alongside his parents. Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Mr. Johnson was born on Dec. 15, 1947, to Theodore and Beatrice (Staples) Johnson in Chicago. He attended Lyons Township High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. Mr. Johnson became a chef and owned his own restaurant in Farmington, CT for a number of years, this is where he became a father to his daughter Sally Ann Johnson. He relocated back to Illinois and owned his own store that sold the miniatures that he loved to paint and organize as well as participate in large scale war games. Mr. Johnson was devoted to his dogs, Lily, Patty and Riley, taking them to Duck Farm in Lake Villa, where he was known as the “Mayor”.  A bench and tree were placed in memoriam at Duck Farm by his family.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his daughter Sally A. Johnson of Barnstable, MA; sisters, Karen (Richard) Herman of La Grange, Karolyn (Spencer) Godfrey of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Kimberly Johnson Garrigan of Oswego; nephews, Jeffrey Herman, Brian (Kristi) Herman, Kyle Godfrey, Connor Godfrey and Casey Godfrey; nieces, Beatrice Garrigan and Elizabeth Garrigan; and great-nieces, Margaret Herman and Abigail Herman.

He was preceded in death by his father.
