Joseph "Joe" P. Mizera, 85, of Raymond, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Raymond.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held in St. Raymond Catholic Cemetery in Raymond. Hough Funeral Home in Raymond is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mizera was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Beckemeyer, the son of Thomas Albert and Edna Sophie (Nagle) Mizera. He married Mary Agnes Danielson on Sept. 12, 1959, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, and she survives.

He and his family owned and operated Mizera Market and Food Locker in Raymond from 1946 to 2000. During that time, he served his country as Staff Sergeant in the USAF from April 1953 to Nov. 26, 1956.

A member of the St. Raymond Catholic Church, he was a 50-year member of the Raymond K of C. He was an EMT with the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance, and the president and founding member of the Raymond-Harvel Community Fund.

Chairman of the zoning board and the Raymond Business Association, he was a founding member of the Raymond-Harvel Kiwanis Club, which was formed in 1958, where he served as the club's first president. He also served as Kiwanis District tT. governor for two terms.

A 50-year member of the American Legion Triple Star Post 299 in Raymond, he served as the vice president of the PAG Grocery buying group in Staunton.

He enjoyed restoring old cars, swimming, gardening and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Joseph (Melissa) Mizera of Springfield, Timothy (Tracy) Mizera of Raymond, Christopher (Charity) Mizera of Raymond and Gregory (Suzanne) Mizera of Taylorville; grandchildren, Catherine, Zachary,  Abigail, Hailey, Christian, Ashley, Matthew, Jacob, Cameron, Carson, Hobie, Callie and Spencer; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Hans (Shirley Matli) Mizera of Litchfield; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria; a son, Michael; a sister, Marion Held; and brothers, David and Thomas.

Memorials may be made to the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance, St. Raymond Catholic Church or the Lincolnwood Drama Club.
