Jesse “Chink” Melvin, 92, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at the Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Oct. 23, at Denning Cemetery in Frankfurt, with Brother Mike Cash officiating. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort assisted with arrangements.
Mr. Melvin was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Thompsonville, to Roy W. Melvin and Elizabeth (Clem) Melvin.
Mr. Melvin was a retired federal mine inspector, having worked at Freeman Coal Company, Orient Mine # 3 and Old Ben Mine # 24.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Martha Vallbracht of Hillsboro; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carol Anne Melvin in 1971; former wife, Marietta; two brothers, Burton and Bob Melvin; and sister, Delores Mandrell.
