Jerry Dean "Jake" Longwell, 68, of Hillsboro, formerly of Shelbyville, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, in Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville. 

Mr. Longwell was born on Dec. 26, 1949, in Olney, the son of Mervin E. and Hattie Pauline (Stockstill) Longwell. 

He began working for Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville. Later, he worked for Pillsbury in LeRoy and then was a logger with his brother, Ernie, in Montgomery County. 

He retired as a press operator for Highland Supply in Highland. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, tinkering with cars and being with his family.

He is survived by his sons, William Michael "Mike" Longwell of Bush and Jerry Lee Scott "Sam" (Susan) Longwell of Hillsboro; daughter, Carolyn Jarman of Union, MO; brother, Ernie Longwell of Pleasant Mound; sister, Dorothy (Roy) Lawson of Litchfield; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Richard, Bob and Bill Longwell.
