Edward E. Meier, 85, of Litchfield, died on July 1, 2023, at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Carlinville.
No services are planned. Cremation was provided by Lincoln Land Cremation Society of Butler Funeral Homes in Springfield, with private inurnment to be held at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
Mr. Meier was born October 11, 1937, in Litchfield, the son of Elmer and Minnie Meier. He married Maxine Hartel on May 20, 1957. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2013.
Mr. Meier graduated from Litchfield Community High School with the class of 1955. He then attended St. James Trade School in Springfield. He was self-employed as a painting and wallpaper contractor, known by many in the area for his outstanding work, before retiring in 2005.
Mr. Meier was a member of Litchfield Moose Lodge and St. Michael’s Church in Staunton. For many years he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Litchfield Fire Department.
Mr. Meier is survived by his daughter, Linda Meier of Litchfield; sons, Patrick Meier of Streamwood and Michael (Laurie) Meier of Fredericksburg, VA; three grandchildren, Michael, Melissa and Jason Meier; and sister, Margaret (Maggie) Walker of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Richard (Dick) Meier and James Meier.
