Danny Lee Beck, 73, of Vandalia, died the morning of Friday, May 5, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.

Per Mr. Beck’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. A private interment was held in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Beck was born on Oct. 24, 1949, in Bluff City, the son of Fleming and Dorothy (Bolyard) Beck. He married Paula Jean Davison on Oct. 21, 1972; together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Mr. Beck retired after 37 years of employment from SBL Fayette County Hospital, where he worked in maintenance. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Beck was a lover of all animals, enjoyed playing cards, all genres of music, riding his motorcycle when able and cherished time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Beck is survived by his children, Jeremy (Mary Alice) Beck, Sarah (Kenny) Long Jr. and Dana (Jim) Smith, all of Vandalia, and Linda Ricke of Fillmore; eight grandsons, Matthew (Hayley) Beck, Jakob (Chelsea) Beck, Ejay Beck, Eli (Makayla) Beck, Wyatt (Tori) Beck, Garrett Long, Dalton (Kayla) Smith and Devin Smith; and great-grandchildren, Anberlin Smith, Kynlee Smith, Zoe Beck, Austin Beck, Adalynn Beck and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Beck, Jerry Beck and David Beck; and sisters, Pat Wasser and Susie Beck.
