College Report: Bishop Seventh At Invite

It was his only golf outing of the fall, but Litchfield graduate Alex Bishop, a Purdue University-Northwest freshman, proved himself in that one outing.

Bishop was one of ten golfers shooting for PU-Northwest in the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite, which was hosted by The Pride. Bishop finished seventh overall shooting a 159. The freshman shot an 81 in the opening round. He then shot a low round of 78 in the second and final round.

The outing was held at the White Hawk Country Club in Crown Point, Indiana. Purdue-Northwest shot a 611, which was 14 strokes better than the second place team, Illinois Central College, who shot a 625.

Karsyn Kulick (Litchfield) had ten kills and a .318 hitting percentage for Fontbonne University as they downed Spalding University. Kulick, who also had three blocks, one of which was a solo, helped Fontbonne level their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mark at 7-7. They are 8-12 overall.

Lindsey Major (Hillsboro) posted a double-double against Lincoln Land Community College, but it was not enough to power Lewis and Clark Community College to a win. Major had an eye-popping 16 service aces and 16 digs in the 3-0 loss. She finished with nine digs in the 3-0 loss to Parkland College. Lewis and Clark is 17-14 overall and 2-4 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.

Lexi Throne (Litchfield) finished 223rd at the Lewis University Conference Cross-Over. The University of Illinois-Springfield runner finished the 6,000-meter race in 26 minutes, 35.10 seconds. She helped UIS take 27th with 854 points.  

Austin Grabow (Hillsboro) started at center for Illinois College as they downed Cornell College 47-10 in their Midwest Conference-South Division opener. The IC Blue Boys posted 496 yards of offense. They passed for 326 yards and 170 rushing yards. They had 25 first downs and four touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. IC is 2-3 overall.

Abby Brockmeyer (Lincolnwood) scored five points and pulled down nine rebounds for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in their 73-39 exhibition win over McKendree University. Brockmeyer, who started and played 25 minutes, also had four blocked shots and three steals.

Jade Taylor (Litchfield) played 26 minutes for Greenville University as they dumped Spalding University 2-0 in women's soccer. Greenville is 12-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the SLIAC.

Whitney Chesser (Hillsboro) and Aliese Greenwood (Hillsboro) both played for Blackburn College in their 3-0 win over Eureka College. Chesser had three shots on goal, while Greenwood did not have any stats. Blackburn is 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the SLIAC.

Mattison Morgan (Litchfield) started both of St. Louis College of Pharmacy women's soccer games against Columbia College and Williams Baptist University. STLCOP was topped in both games, losing a 6-0 decision to Williams Baptist and a 10-0 decision to Columbia College. In the loss to Williams Baptist, Morgan helped goalkeepers make 12 saves. They made nine in the loss to Columbia College. STLCOP is 0-12 overall and 0-11 in the American Midwest Conference.
