Betty V. (Green) Puccprella Simpson, 90, formerly of Litchfield, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, in Fort Worth, TX.

Cremation rites will be accorded in Texas. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Hart Cemetery near Litchfield.

Mrs. Simpson was born in 1927, in Litchfield, the daughter of Ellis and Hazel Irene (Simpson) Green. She married John Puccprella in Jersey City, NJ, and he preceded her in death in 1998. She then married Phillip Simpson in 2000, in Sebring, FL, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1944. She met her husband, John, while in nursing school in New Jersey. They went to Miami where he worked in the airline industry.

A registered nurse for 50 years, she was also a pilot. At the age of 50, she went back to school to obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing at Florida International University. In her last year before retirement, she did volunteer work.

After she and her husband, John retired, they moved to Sebring, FL. After the death of her second husband, Phillip, she moved to Texas to be with family.

Her family said that when she saw a problem, she worked to solve it. She developed a set of "rules" in patient record-keeping that put her much in demand.

Over the years, she flew all over the United States to do in-service teaching at hospitals and doctors' offices, helping them with "best practices" in patient record-keeping. Her rules are still used today in hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices.

In the mid-70s, she was named to Who's Who in Nursing, as well as a member of the women's flying group, The 99s.

She is survived by her sons, John Puccprella of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Tom Puccprella of  Fort Worth, TX, and Ed Puccprella of Washington, DC; and two grandchildren, Brian and Matthew.
