Allen C. Hampton, 88

Allen Clyde "Al" Hampton, 88, of Litchfield, died at 9:34 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. James Tinzmann, the former pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, officiating.   

Mr. Hampton was born on June 12, 1930, in Litchfield, to William Clyde and Pearl Marie (Bailey) Hampton. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1948. On  June 29, 1951, Mr. Hampton married Betty Jean (Gooden) at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.

Mr. Hampton was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and served during the Korean conflict. He was a furnace tender engineer and worked for Hillsboro Glass Company for 30 years. He enjoyed dancing , especially line dancing, and had good mechanical skills. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.

Mr. Hampton is survived by six children, Michael A. (Shirley) Hampton of Litchfield, James W. Hampton of Mt. Sterling, David W. Hampton of Litchfield, Larry D. Hampton of Litchfield, Gloria J. (Alan) Naughton of Fremont, NE, and Susan M. (Larry) Hosto of Oelwein, IA; seven grandchildren, Paul, Mary, and Diane Naughton, Pamela (Sam) Westendorf, Tyler Hosto, Nancy (Richard) King, and Craig (Jaclyn) Hampton; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hampton and Nicholas King.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Doris Strate.
